Solar and battery

Solar and battery systems, designed together

If you're starting from scratch, getting panels and a battery at the same time is the simplest and usually the best-value way to cut your power bills. We'll help you work out the right system and arrange a free quote.

One inverter

A single hybrid inverter runs the panels and the battery, so there's less equipment on your wall and fewer things to go wrong.

One installation

One visit, one connection application and one set of paperwork, instead of doing it all twice.

Sized as a pair

The panels should be sized to fill the battery and still run the house during the day. We check your quote gets this balance right.

How a solar and battery system works

During the day your panels power the house first. Any spare solar charges the battery, and only once the battery is full does the rest go to the grid. In the evening and overnight, the house runs from the battery before it draws power from the grid. On a sunny day, many homes run largely on their own power.

Getting the sizing right

The two halves have to suit each other. A large battery with too few panels never fills. A big solar system with a small battery exports most of its power for very little. When we go through your quote, we check it against your bills, your evening use and any plans such as an electric car or replacing gas appliances.

Both rebates on one system

When you install both, the panels and the battery each earn their own small-scale technology certificates. The value of both is usually taken off the installer's price up front. See how solar and battery rebates work.

Backup and future-proofing

A system designed as a whole can include backup power for essential circuits and leave room for more panels or a second battery later. Tell us your plans and we'll make sure your quote allows for them.

Already have solar? You don't need a whole new system. See adding a battery to existing solar.
